LCW 6/15/27 Workplace Bullying: A Growing Concern

Bullying can significantly undermine employee morale, productivity, and performance, while also disrupting the maintenance of respectful, collaborative, and collegial working environments. For these reasons, it is essential that public agencies have effective tools in place to identify and address bullying.

This interactive workshop will define bullying, cyberbullying, and abusive conduct, and explain how they differ from rudeness, general incivility, and unlawful harassment. Participants will learn strategies for recognizing bullying when it occurs, and for addressing its impact on the workplace. The session will also explore common characteristics of the “targets” of bullying, and discuss the role of bystanders in confronting and preventing workplace bullying. The session will provide practical advice for responding to bullying conduct and holding bullies accountable for their conduct. The ability to identify and appropriately address bullying, abusive conduct, and cyberbullying is an important step to fostering and maintaining a respectful working environment.
